Soar With The Eagles
by Gary Jacobson

Watching
The eagle on high flying,
Soaring over the high country,
This symbol of
The land I love
This noble land of the free...
Protecting,
Guiding,
Inspiring
By quiet power,
Breathing
Freedom's essence over me flowing
Its fragrance like a mid-day shower

Oh, with the mighty eagle I would soar
Bearing a nations pride clutched in his talons
Looking down on creation’s floor
From exalted heaven’s echelons.
eagle
This Lordly master of earth and skies
Floating on rivers of air
Above mortal firmament flies
Without seeming care...

Spread your mighty wings
Oh master of all earth’s domain.
The greatest of all the kings
Who with nobility regally reign.

Perched on rocky portals high
Observing all with royal disdain
Soft as a sigh
Sure as the rain,
Flying free as the wind
Roiling heaven’s send.
eagle
With the keen eye of an eagle
Ever watching,
I feel rushing
Down my spine a subtle tingle.

As circling, ever circling
The eagle flies high and higher in Celestial sky
An artist painting pictures
Bearing an Eagle’s artistic eye.
Seeing exaggerated life caricatures
Ruling the sky.

Mortals scrawling below seem puny,
Enacting melodramatic scenes of life and death
As he soars on powerful wing skillfully,
They incite with angered breath.
As he glides on updrafts effortlessly,
On golden wings cuts beyond a cloud,
He sees them arguing proud and loud.

The eagle observes the changing season,
Abides by simple reason.
He sees men far below with petty machinations
Grotesque
Comical abberations
Chronically burlesque,
At their very worst,
Tempestuously fighting with one another
To be first...
Contending with their brother
Always for percived right accursed.

For breathes not a man
Who doesn't think he's right,
That God and justice stand on his side
Who for foolish principles shows off his might
In vainglorious, arrogant pride.

Eagles also see divinity in men,
On high casually wondering If good, or evil will win...
Wondering
When will they learn?
When will they ever learn.

Eagles see mankind below them struggling,
Warring,
Fighting,
Hating,
Peacemaking,
Creating,
Destroying,
Loving,
Caring,
Ignoring,
Dieing,
Day after day,
Mortally moral,
In this immoral
Passion play.

Looking,
Ever observing,
An eagle is mastery absolute,
Of delicate feathered lace,
Powerfully resolute,
Knowing in heaven’s rhyme his place,
Accepting his lot
With solemn grace.

Oh hear an eagle’s shrieking call
Over the high mountaintop rings
Thrilling to us all
Lifting aloft spirits high majesty brings...
In chilling inspiration to men enthrall.
